MTC Congratulates Citizens and Rebukes League Delays

Namibia Premier league sponsors MTC recently congratulated Citizens Football Club on gaining promotion to the MTC Premiership, while it also urged the league authorities to bring remaining First Division matches to speed.

Citizens, formerly known as Monitronics Success College Football Club, gained promotion to the MTC Namibia Premier League following their runaway league victory over their opponents in the Southern Stream First Division Football league.

Mervin Geiriseb, the League Administrator of the Southern Stream First Division confirmed that Citizens won the league with 52 points, with Rebels in second place on 48 and Unam in third place on 40, after 21 matches played by each club.

While the Southern Stream First Division league has come to an end, the North West First Stream and the North East First Division Stream are still far from being concluded with both leagues currently in their second round phases. Former NPL campaigners Mighty Gunners from Otjiwarongo are leading the pack in the North West Division, while Tsumeb outfit Benfica leads the pack in the North East Division.

During a symbolic prize hand over at the Sam Nujoma Stadium on Sunday, MTC Manager for Sponsorship and Promotion, Joseph Mundjindi congratulated Citizens Football Club for gaining promotion to the league, and urged the team to tackle their new challenge with vigour as they join the big guns’ league.

“You have made it into the big league, and from here on the competition will be a lot tougher. However, with vision, vigour and planning as you have shown during your campaign over the last few months, I am sure that you will be able to stand your ground and show your mettle,” he said.

Mundjindi also implored the league authorities to bring the leagues of North East and North West Division up to speed, saying that the late conclusion can cause delays on all league planning for next season.
