Namas Nominees Announcement Live

This year’s Namibian Annual Music Awards (NAMA) 2014 nominees is for the first time to be announced live on the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) TV on March 31.

Artists will find out whether they have made it as nominees to this year’s grand finale in May in Swakopmund only live on NBCtv. “The levels of excitement are even higher as the artists will get to find out whether they are on the nominees list, so is the rest of the world,” says Tim Ekandjo, the NAMAS Executive Chairperson. A total of 37 categories will be announced, with a maximum of six nominees in every category, except for the six public voting categories, namely the Best Live Performance, the Most Popular Artist, the Most Disciplined Artist, the Entertainment Journalist, the Entertainment Radio DJ and the Most Socially Responsible Artist of the Year.

All other categories of nominees have been determined purely by the judges’ votes. Once the nominees are announced, only the Song of the Year category will be open for public voting until May 3, while all other categories can be considered closed.

“We are happy with the work put in by the Steering Committee as they made sure that the vetting process was thorough and did a marvellous job,” said Ekandjo.

He also said that the public can expect surprises in the list of nominees.

“Every NAMA event comes with its own surprises, but I must hint that we have a lot of new players emerging which makes for an exciting list of nominees,” said Ekandjo, wishing luck to all the artists who took the time to participate in this year’s NAMA as well as encouraging those who didn’t make it as nominee this year to not give up.
