Namibia Face Germany in Opening Match

NAMIBIA’s national U18 fistball team will play their opening game at the U18 Fistball World Cup in Pomerode, Brazil, against Germany on Thursday.

The Namibian team, that is coached by Andreas Minz, will play further matches against Brazil, Chile, Argentina, Switzerland and Austria during the preliminary round of the tournament on Thursday and Friday.

Depending on their position after the preliminary round, Namibia will then compete in the positional play-offs on Saturday and Sunday.

According to Minz the aim of the team is to end fifth at the championship. Namibia is considered an outsider against fistball powerhouses Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Brazil, but Minz has prepared the team well and they are in with a chance against Chile and Argentina.

Most of the players travelled with Minz to the European Championships during July 2013 when the team competed at the championships and also participated in a training camp afterwards.

Minz has also held a number of practice camps during the past couple of months.
