Namibia ready to host CAF Women’s Championship in October this year: Gabriel Sinimbo

WINDHOEK: Namibia is ready to host the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Women’s Championship in October this year, the Permanent Secretary (PS) in the Ministry of Youth, National Service, Sports and Culture (MYNSSC), Gabriel Sinimbo says.

He made this statement during the draw for the ninth edition of the biennial championship here on Saturday.

The competition will take place from 11 to 25 October at the Sam Nujoma Stadium in the capital.

Sinimbo said the MYNSSC and the local organising committee (LOC) have mobilised all relevant stakeholders, such us other key ministries, the City of Windhoek and non-governmental organisations to partner with them to deliver a memorable event.

A national marketing campaign is underway to ensure that all Namibians are informed, and invited to support and witness the talent and skills of the best female footballers on the African continent, he said.

Namibia has been drawn to play in Group A against the Ivory Coast, Zambia and Nigeria.

Group B comprises South Africa, Cameroon, Ghana and Algeria.

The tree top teams qualify for the 2015 International Federation of Football Associations’ (FIFA) Women’s World Cup in Canada.
