Namibian Archers Shooting Straight

A NUMBER bowmen and women representing several Namibian archery clubs are doing battle at the 64th Annual South African National Championships at Marks Park Sports Club in Johannesburg.

The competition, which started on 30 March and will continue until 3 April, is one of the most prestigious on the continent and has 171 elite participants this year.

At the conclusion of day one, the Namibian archers were proving to be a formidable force.

Yesterday saw the start of the 720 Round amp Eliminations – a world-ranking event – which will take place over the course of the final three days of competition. In addition archers will compete in team and mixed team events.

Although the 1440 “Full FITA” Round was not completed due to inclement weather, Namibia’s top archers find themselves in the following positions:

1st – Hanne Snyman (Compound Girls U13) 6th Louw Nel (Compound Men) 6th – Ilana Malan (Compound Women) 1st – Ruan van Staaden (Junior Compound Men) 2nd – Hendrik van Eeden (Cadet Compound Men) 3rd – Jackson Engel (Cadet Compound Men)

1st – Elizabeth Taljaard (Cadet Compound Women) and 1st Xander Reddig (Cadet Recurve Men).
