Namibian Girls Footy Team Get Ready

Having been selected as the only country to represent Africa at the upcoming 2014 Summer Youth Olympics in China starting in August, Team Namibia have started with preparations for the girls football event.

In November 2012, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) took a decision, through the Namibia Football Association (NFA), to make Namibia’s U15 girls team the sole African representative at the Youth Olympics in Nanjing, China.

NFA Present John Muinjo said: “We have invested a lot of resources in youth football structures and have indeed taken women football seriously at the Association and that has won the hearts of FIFA and CAF – that’s why we were selected to be Africa’s only representative.

“We are very pleased to have this honour because we will not only represent Namibia but we are Africa’s ambassadors and a respected blueprint for women football development on the continent, so we are very proud of that,” added an elated Muinjo.

Cape Verde will represent Africa in the boys football events, which will see boys and girls under the age of 15 (born between January 1 and December 31 1999), taking part. The girls tournament will be played at the Jiangning Sports Centre Stadium while the boys will play at Wutaishan Stadium in Nanjing, China. The NFA has called up the 25-member squad mostly consisting of players who were selected at the Galz amp Goals U15 National Championship in June 2013 in Windhoek.
