Namibian under-20 rugby team receives national colors to take part in 2014 IRB Junior World Rugby Trophy tournament

WINDHOEK: The Namibian under-20 rugby team on Monday received their national colours to take part in the 2014 International Rugby Board’s (IRB) Junior World Rugby Trophy tournament in Hong Kong.

The team, led by captain Awie Thompson, will depart for Hong Kong via Johannesburg, South Africa today.

The tournament kicks off next Monday, and ends on 19 April.

Namibia Rugby Union (NRU) president Bradley Basson encouraged the young players to be disciplined at all times as they are the ambassadors of their country, parents, family and themselves.

Speaking during the colours’ ceremony here, he said a lot of damage was done in the past to Namibian rugby, and it will take a lot of time to restore the confidence of stakeholders in the sport.

Basson added that the union’s administration, finances and books can be in top shape, but if players do not play rugby the way they should, then they are heading for a disaster.
