NamPol officer hit by drunken driver in Oranjemund

WINDHOEK; A woman Namibian Police Force (NamPol) officer was hit by a vehicle on Saturday while on patrol at about 01h00 in Oranjemund.

NamPol Deputy Commissioner Rudolf Isaak told Nampa on Sunday that Constable Lovisa Ishile, 27, was on patrol with two other officers when the vehicle hit her from behind on a public road near Flamingo Court.

Ishile sustained an open wound on her forehead and fractured her left arm.

She was admitted to the Namdeb Hospital and later flown to the Katutura Intermediate Hospital. Her condition is now stable.

Isaak said a 36-year-old Namibian male was arrested for reckless driving and driving under the influence of alcohol. He is expected to appear in court on Monday.

The suspect is a Namdeb employee.
