NamPol wins Ohangwena Bidvest regional tourney

The Ohangwena Namibian Police Force (NamPol) Football Club (FC) has qualified for the second round of the Bidvest Cup after winning the regional tournament over the weekend.

The Ohangwena regional Bidvest tournament took place at the Ponhofi Senior Secondary School (SSS) sports field in the northern border town of Helao Nafidi on Saturday and Sunday.

A member of the executive committee (Exco) of the Namibia Football Association (NFA) in the region, Sammy Mushelenga confirmed the Ohangwena NamPol FC’s qualification.

Ohangwena NamPol beat Mwadinomho FC by 4-1 in the tournament’s final encounter on Sunday.

He told Nampa on Thursday that as the regional champion, Ohangwena NamPol will be awarded N.dollars 10 000, while Mwadinomho FC will become N.dollars 5 000 richer.

Twelve local football clubs that are affiliated to the Ohangwena regional second division football league of the NFA participated in the regional tournament.

Meanwhile, the Oshana regional second division football league also held its tournament for its 12 football clubs over the weekend.

Coordinator of NFA in that region, Sem Nekwaya told this agency on Thursday that the final match of the tournament will be played at the Oshakati Independence Stadium at 16h00 on Saturday.

Newcomer to the Oshana regional second division football league, Khuse FC will face Vietnam Rangers.

Nekwaya said that apart from the final of the Oshana regional tournament, the region will also this weekend host the same cup’s preliminary round for football clubs affiliated to the Northwest First Division football league of NFA.
