Nam’s sevens rugby women’s team in action Saturday

WINDHOEK: Namibia’s sevens rugby women’s team will be in action on Saturday in the 2014 Confederation of African Rugby’s Women’s Africa Cup Sevens in Kenya.

The Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos County will play host the one-day event.

Eight of Africa’s best women’s sevens rugby teams led by champions South Africa, hosts Kenya, Uganda, Senegal, Zimbabwe, Tunisia, Madagascar and Namibia will do battle in the quest to be crowned queens of African sevens rugby at the close of business on Saturday evening.

The eight teams are divided into two pools of four each.

Namibia is in Pool B with last year’s beaten finalists Tunisia, Uganda and Zimbabwe, while Pool B is made up of Kenya, South Africa, Senegal and Madagascar.

The top two sides from both pools will play in the cup semi-finals, with the bottom two playing the bowl semi-finals.

It is Namibia’s first-ever Confederation of Africa Rugby (CAR) Africa Women’s Cup Sevens’ participation.

Namibian team captain Geraldine Louw told Nampa earlier that it is difficult to predict their performance, but promised to give their opponents a hard time.
