Nara seeds price increased by a dollar

UTUSEB: The market price for the !Nara seeds this year increased from N.dollars 21.50 to 22.50 per kilogram.

The price came as a result of an agreement was reached last week Tuesday between the Topnaar Traditional Authority and Desert Hills, a company that buys the seeds.

The !Nara melon is the staple food for the Topnaar community that grows mostly in the coastal area along the Kuiseb River near Walvis Bay.

Seeds are eaten as snacks by the community or being sold for processing and production of cooking oil and cosmetic products.

The cooked pulp from the melon is dried into what the Topnaar call #oagaribeâ, meaning !Nara chocolate or cake in Nama language.
