NCRST has invested in 57 research projects so far

WINDHOEK: The National Commission on Research, Science and Technology (NCRST) has so far funded about 57 research projects to the value of N.dollars 14 million.

The NCRST’s Chief Executive Officer Eino Mvula said this during the three-day International Conference on Emerging Trends in Networks and Computer Communications (ETNCC) in the capital on Monday.

Mvula said the agency is responsible for coordination, developing, promoting and also funding research, as tasked with the establishment of the National Research, Science and Technology Fund as provided for in terms of Section 23 of Research Science and Technology (RST) Act, 2004.

He added that a number of researchers will share and disseminate their research findings during the National Research Symposium in July.

The symposium will be held under the theme ‘Research weaving the future and beyond’.

Mvula said there will be a parallel session of Namibian and South African researchers who are recipients of the research grants under the Namibia-South Africa bilateral agreement.

The National Research journal will be launched at the same event.

“We are presented with an opportunity to take advantage of the support that our policy-makers are giving to us in order to harness the potential benefits of science, technology and innovation to solve our socio-economic challenges,” he said.

Mvula said the agency will soon issue a call schedule outlining the various funding windows to enable researchers and innovators to prepare themselves in advance.

The NCRST has allocated a total of N.dollars 47 million towards funding research and innovation in the 2015/2016 financial year.
