WINDHOEK: The National Commission on Research, Science and Technology (NCRST) awarded grants worth just over N.dollars 3 million to researchers from the University of Namibia (Unam) on Friday.

Speaking at the handing-over of the grants in Windhoek, Unam’s Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Academic Affairs, Professor Osmund Mwandembele applauded the Commission for the gesture.

He advised all researchers to focus on issues affecting society, and which will add value to the present knowledge in the research fields.

The grants worth N.dollars 3 039 142 have been awarded to 17 research projects for a period of two years – 2013/14 and 2014/15.

The NCRST’s Manager of Resources’ Mobilisation and Fund Management, Alushe Nditya explained that the grants were awarded to successful Namibian researchers and scientists, in partnership with South African researchers from institutions of higher learning.

The researchers submitted research project proposals to the NCRST for funding under the Namibia/South Africa Bilateral Collaboration Research Programme, following a call for proposals.
