NDF member dies in road accident near Otjiwarongo

OTJIWARONGO: A 31-year-old Namibian Defence Force (NDF) officer died instantly in a motor vehicle accident on Saturday morning near Otjiwarongo.

The Namibian Police Force (NamPol)’s Otjozondjupa Regional Crime Investigations Co-ordinator, Deputy Commissioner Moses Khairabeb identified the deceased as Silas Mweshipopya.

He told Nampa in an interview on Saturday the deceased’s vehicle collided head-on with an Isuzu pickup at about 04H30 on Saturday, some 7 kilometres from Otjiwarongo on the road from Okahandja.

Mweshipopya was stationed at the Okahandja Military Base. His close relatives were informed of his death.

“He was alone in a Volkswagen Jetta at the time of the accident,” Khairabeb said.

Four occupants in the Isuzu including the driver sustained light to serious injuries.

They were all taken to the Otjiwarongo State Hospital for medical treatment.

Police investigations continue.
