Nearly 57 000 voters registered by 13 September

WINDHOEK; Nearly 57 000 voters were registered during the supplementary registration of voters for the period 08 to 13 September, according to figures released by the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) on Saturday.

The supplementary registration started on 08 September and ended on Saturday.

According to information released on the ECN’s Facebook page on Saturday, 56 734 voters were registered between 08 and 13 September.

A total of 1 827 voters registered in the //Karas Region over this period, while 10 088 registered in Erongo; 1 826 registered in Hardap; and 3 424 registered in Kavango East.

In Kavango West, 1 812 voters registered by 13 September, while 9 001 registered in Khomas; 2 082 registered in Kunene; and 6 240 registered in Ohangwena.

The Omaheke Region registered 1 521 voters; Omusati 5 068; Oshana 4 643; Oshikoto 3 878; Otjozondjupa 3 731; and Zambezi 1 593.

The countrywide supplementary registration period allowed citizens who were not able to register during the General Registration of Voters from 15 January to 02 March 2014, to register.

It also targeted young people who turned 18 years recently or people who have lost their voters’ cards after the general voters’ registration.

Namibians go to the polls in November for the Presidential and National Assembly elections.
