Netball Namibia holds trials

WINDHOEK: Preparations for the upcoming Four Nations’ netball tournament in Namibia between June and July this year are on track.

As such, Netball Namibia (NN), previously known as the All Namibian Netball Association (ANNA), hosted trials last weekend to select the best netball players in the country.

About 100 players from eight active netball regions – excluding Hardap, Omusati and Oshikoto who do not have active netball teams – participated in the national trials at the Israel Patrick Iyambo police training college here.

“Every year, our national netball team visits Singapore to compete in their Four Nations’ tournament.

This year, Singapore will come to Namibia and play in our Four’ Nations netball tournament, which we will use as preparation for the African netball championships,” NN Secretary-General Lydia Mutenda noted.

The African netball championships in September this year will be held in Gaborone, Botswana, where the best African netball nation will be crowned.

Hosts Namibia, Singapore and two other visiting Southern African countries still-to-be-confirmed will participate in the June tournament.

In preparation for these events, 34 netball players were selected for a training camp, set to start in May this year.
