New Additions to Maerua Mall

SINCE the opening of Maerua Mall Phase 2 in April by President Hifikepunye Pohamba, Oryx Properties is putting final touches to the upgrade.

Oryx Properties said in an announcement yesterday that internal upgrade and renovations of Checkers is nearing completion and it is expected to be ready in July.

The extended and refurbished Checkers will include a new bakery, butchery, wine and outdoor section. Checkers in Maerua Mall is just over 6 000 square meters and is currently the largest Checkers in Africa, outside of South Africa.

The slip-lane entrance from Robert Mugabe Avenue for traffic approaching Maerua Mall from the southern suburbs is expected to be completed this month and will provide shoppers with easy access onto the south-eastern and north-eastern parking decks.

Oryx said Woolworths has approved the introduction of a food offering to complement the existing fashion offering. Woolworths Foods is expected to open its doors on 1 October.

Food Lovers Market will open their first high-end store in Namibia at the end of July and will also include a sit-down eatery.

Other new offerings will include Shoe City, John Craig and Jay Jay’s. Kentucky Fried Chicken and Kauai offering health convenience food opens on 1 July.

Oryx said Ster Kinekor has concluded an agreement with a new franchisee to operate the cinema and will be upgraded to include the latest digital and 3D technology.

Namibian Pension Funds own 95% of Oryx. This followed the repatriation of the Oryx shareholding since 2012 whereby Namibian investors acquired the 52% of shares previously held by South African shareholders.

“Oryx will continue expanding its portfolio as opportunities arise to acquire or develop properties which appreciate in value and produce a dependable, sustainable and growing income stream to its investors,” the announcement said.
