New ‘FNB Namibia Pocket Guide’ APP Launched for Tourism Industry

FNB Namibia launched a new interactive tourism app called the FNB Namibia Pocket Guide at this year’s Tourism Expo which started yesterday at the Windhoek Show Grounds. The expo runs until Saturday.

The bank hails the product as another milestone by FNB in providing the tourist community with digital tools to enhance their holiday experience. Head of FNB Tourism Division, Christo Viljoen, commented: “The app is a welcome innovation by tourism’s role players and is a necessary initiative for uplifting the tourism industry in terms of data collection and improving customer service standards.” The pocket guide was initially created for use by participants at the Aenture Travel World Summit (ATWS) 2013, to rate their experiences as they venture through Namibia’s beautiful landscape. The pilot was successful and the app has since gone through major modifications and extra feature installations for it to be made available for use by the rest of the Namibian public and foreign tourists.

“Once you download the FNB Namibia Pocket Guide app, it enables a person to search for the best experiences Namibia has to offer, be it the location of a tourist attraction, places to see, restaurants to eat at or pubs and bars to enjoy a drink. It also includes camping sites, luxurious resorts and hotels for your accommodation needs, while enabling you to share your pictures of rare bird sightings and interesting natural scenes on the app.” The app has an ‘I-Rate’ feature for ratings on how great the food was, how awesome the dune sailing, facilities, treatment by people, how scenic the hike was and many more.

It also provides automatic links to emergency numbers and maps of Namibia. All with the goal of helping establishments grow and improve on their offering and customer service levels to the benefit of developing national tourism.
