Nghipandulwa Scoops Silver in Botswana

Namibia’s renowned 800-metre athlete, Daniel Nghipandulwa delivered a blistering performance at the recent Sports View Runners Club International Meet to take silver in the men’s 800m category with his time of 1:51.99.

The competition was held over the weekend at the University of Botswana Stadium and served as a qualifying platform for the upcoming All Africa Games, World Championships as well the popular Southern Region Senior Championship.

Despite an impressive second place finish, Nghipandulwa’s time failed to book him a place at this year’s major games such as the All Africa Games and World Championships, with the required qualifying time for the All Africa Games being 1:47.30 while a standard time of 1:45.45 is required to qualify for the World Championships.

He, however, said he would this coming weekend again travel to Botswana to participate in their National Championship, where he is the reigning 800m champion.

The highly gifted Nghipandulwa expressed disappointment at the constant lack of financial backing from the corporate world, as he is currently footing the bill for all his travelling expenses.

“I received an invitation from the Botswana race organisers and despite my financial constraints, I did not hesitate and took it wanting to represent my country. I’m trying my level best to qualify for either the World Championships or All African Games this year by participating in the competitions. … I really have no money to pay for my travelling expanses to various events,” pleaded Nghipandulwa.
