Nine injured in accident on Whk-Rehoboth road

WINDHOEK: Nine (9) people are being admitted at the Katutura State Hospital in the capital after they sustained various body injuries in a road accident on Friday last week as other Namibians were busy celebrating the country’s 24 years of political independence.

Spokesperson of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol), Deputy Commissioner Edwin Kaguantjivi told a press conference here on Sunday afternoon that the nine people who are now receiving medical treatment at the Katutura State Hospital were all injured in a road accident that took place some 25 kilometres south of indhoek on the Windhoek/Rehoboth main road on 21 March this year (Friday last week).

The said road accident occurred on Friday afternoon at about 15h22 when the driver of a motor the nine people were traveling in allegedly overturned the vehicle when it (vehicle) slipped on a curve.

The names of the nine injured persons as provided by NamPol’s Public Relations Department are Albert Dominicus, who was the driver of the motor vehicle involved in the said road accident.

The other eight are: Marlene Garises, Carla So-Oabes, Quintin Beukes, Dervin Bock, Rachel So-Oabes, Lerato Edward, Max Jonkel and Josephine Edward.

Meanwhile, according to Kanguatjivi, a case of reckless and negligent driving has already been opened by the Namibian Police Force against Dominicus, who was the driver of the motor vehicle.

The motor vehicle in which the nine people were travelling allegedly slipped on a curve and the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to overturn.

Kanguatjivi said a case of reckless and negligent driving has been opened by NamPol against Dominicus.
