No Bail for Drug Trafficking Suspects

THREE men arrested for the illegal possession of a huge consignment of mandrax tablets in Windhoek on Friday, have been refused bail.

They are Regan Kazohua (27), Clemens Nghinwatwa (26), and 36-year-old Johannes Matheus Ndinoiti.

The three were all denied bail when they made their first appearance in the Windhoek Magistrate’s Court in Katutura on Monday.

The trio appeared before Windhoek Magistrate George Mbundu on charges of illegal possession and dealing in prohibited dangerous substances.

Their case was remanded until 17 August this year for further police investigations and in order to allow them to obtain responses from the justice ministry’s directorate of legal aid on their applications for state-sponsored defence lawyers to represent them in the matter.

Public prosecutor Antony Wilson appeared for the state.

Commanding officer responsible for the Khomas region, commissioner Heinrich Tjiveze told a media briefing on Sunday the three were arrested by members of the police drug law enforcement unit on the premises of Epic Transport company in Windhoek’s northern industrial area at about 14h30.

The three men had in their possession 4 912 mandrax tablets with a street value of about N$294 720.

Members of the public tippedoff the police about the truck coming to Namibia from neighbouring South Africa via Botswana.
