No EVMs in Okahandja yet

WINDHOEK; Electronic voting machines (EVMs) have not yet arrived in Okahandja for the Presidential and National Assembly elections this Friday.

By Wednesday afternoon, there were still no EVMs or any other sensitive election material like printers and verification machines, said Sedekias Eiseb, a polling officer for the Okahandja Constituency in the Otjozondjupa Region.

He told Nampa via phone on Wednesday that such material was expected to arrive late Wednesday evening or Thursday morning.

Eiseb said they do have all other materials like desks, chairs, papers and vehicles needed for the elections.

A total of 16 294 people have registered as voters in the Okahandja Constituency out of a total of 87 655 registered voters in the Otjozondjupa Region.

The Okahandja Constituency has nine fixed points – Okahandja Town Hall, Aurora Primary School, Veddersdal Primary School Hall, Ileni Tulikwafeni OVC Centre, Andreas Kukuri Centre, Okahandja Plots, Epandulo Hall, Okahandja State Hospital, and National Institute for Educational Development (NIED).

The constituency has six mobile teams for 24 mobile polling points.
