NPPTA will take over management of Swakopmund taxi rank this month

SWAKOPMUND: The Namibia Public Passenger Transport Association (NPPTA) will take over the management of the Swakopmund taxi rank during the course of this month.

This taxi rank is situated at plot number 4353 in the Mondesa residential area, and is used by long-distance minibuses to load passengers travelling to Windhoek and the northern regions.

Speaking to Nampa today, the Swakopmund Municipality’s Communications Officer, Aili Gebhardt said the town council resolved that the association must manage the rank on a three-year lease contract.

This decision was taken during the ordinary council management committee meeting held on 13 March this year, and followed after the NPPTA approached the local authority with a request to run the taxi rank.

Confirming this development, NPPTA Secretary-General Nathan Africa told this agency on Wednesday that the agreement requires them to pay N.dollars 1 000 to the municipality every month.

The aim of them taking over the taxi rank’s management is to ensure order, security and the smooth running of the business there.
