NSC Launch 2014 National Sports Conference Logo

The Namibia Sports Commission (NSC) moved yet another step in the right direction with the unveiling of its official logo for the much-anticipated 2014 National Sports Conference slated to be held in the capital next month. Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee (LOC), commissioner Ndeuli Hamutumwa, said unveiling the logo was one of the first steps towards the true realization of a successful sports conference. The NSC had in 2004 and 2009 hosted similar brainstorming sessions, which for some strange reasons never yielded any positives in the absence of people with the appropriate expertise to oversee the successful implementation of resolutions taken at those gatherings.

The 3-day conference starts in Windhoek on the 24th of next month and Hamutumwa added that it would debate various issues hampering progress in several local sports codes, as well as the amendment of the Sports Act of 2003, which he felt is outdated, while also engaging with various stakeholders in implementing policies that would bring about development.

The thorny issue of transformation in sport from grassroots level will also come under discussion. According to Hamutumwa, inadequate funding, a lack or virtually non-existent system of remuneration would also be on top of the agenda, while more emphasis will be given to the full implementation of policies that will attract more corporate companies to come on board and assist with the development of sports at all levels. Various international and local speakers will be invited to deliberate on issues as represented, while experts in various sports fields will also be invited to offer solutions and guidance wherever possible. “After the successful conclusion of the conference, the committee would draft a comprehensive report that will be presented to the legislative house to inform lawmakers about all burning issues facing the Namibian sports fraternity,” Hamutumwa said.
