NUNW concerned about safety of construction workers

WINDHOEK: The National Union of Namibian Workers (NUNW) is unhappy with the mass housing project and construction industry in general due for a lack of health and safety and poor workmanship.

The acting NUNW president Connie Pandeni said the industry has become a death trap for workers, instead of providing secure and safe employment.

She said the issue of health and safety does not exist in the industry, and many people continue to lose their lives and sustain injuries at construction projects.

Pandeni was reacting to the death of a worker on Monday at Rundu.

Three others were injured when a building under construction collapsed and fell onto a shack in which they were sleeping at about 22h00.

She added that investigations on health and safety should be conducted at all mass housing projects and all other construction companies.
