Ondobe community gets multi-million dollar ELCIN church

ONDOBE; The Ondobe Parish of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Namibia (ELCIN) has constructed a new church building worth more than N.dollars 3.3 million.

Presiding ELCIN Bishop Dr Shekutaamba Nambala on Sunday inaugurated the new building. The inauguration was attended by ELCIN members from all over the country.

Speaking at the event, Nambala said the church belongs to everybody, including non-Christians.

“The church is the first place where people hide in the time of war. It is also where everyone who wants to be close to God can be to conduct a prayer,” he said.

The idea to build a church to create enough space for the more than 11 000 congregation members came about in 2001. Several fundraising events were held as from 2004 around the country to collect money for the construction.

Onandjaba Construction Company was involved in the construction, and the Ondobe ELCIN is said to be the first parish to build a multi-million dollar church in the eastern diocese of ELCIN.

Ondobe is one of the oldest ELCIN parishes in the country. It was established 77 years ago by Reverend Mwadikange Vilho Kaulinge, who died a few years after Independence in 1990.

The Bible Society of Namibia launched the revised Oshikwanyama Bible during the inauguration of the new Ondobe ELCIN building on Sunday.
