Opel Mokka – Comfy and Capable

The Mokka was launched locally last week and has already caused quite a stir in the small SUV segment.

This cute commando is a smidge larger than the current crop of small SUVs, including Nissan Juke, Peugeot 2008 and Ford EcoSport.

This is a tidy little package that should be reasonable competent off-road, thanks to it height, short wheel base and 17-inch wheels and tyres. There is however no diesel or 4×4 variant offered and it comes in two well kitted specifications levels, the Enjoy and Cosmo.

Both share a 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine, which is more than up to the job, though a little less punchy than the new three cylinder unit shared by the Adam and the Corsa.

On the track, the 1.4 turbo with an automatic gearbox was comfortable and but not terribly exciting, however it should be more than capable as an everyday drive, but at 9.9 seconds for 0 to 100kmph, there were no major fire works.

All in all, the Mokka is a great package for someone seeking a comfortable, capable and low-key means of getting around. With great size, excellent economy and a steady ride, the Mokka is sure to appeal to the less ostentatious among us.

Pricing starts from N$ 280 000.
