Oshakati has great investment potential – Iindji

OSHAKATI: Chairperson of the Namibia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NCCI) Northern Branch said the Oshakati Town Council has done a great job by allocating resources towards projects that benefit the community but more can still be done.

Speaking at a business breakfast event organised by the Oshakati Town Council here on Friday, Tomas Koneka Iindji singled out the multi-million dollar open market area and its observation tower.

Iindji went on to say the Oshakati Town Council‘s efforts to revamp the roads and improve transportation services at the town are also commendable, adding Oshakati is on the right track and remains an industrial centre for the entire Oshana Region.

“We at the Chamber recognise that you have made great progress, but still more can be done,” he emphasised.

Iindji said the retail sector is becoming quite saturated in Namibia and it is time for entrepreneurs to focus their efforts on other ventures.

He believes the northern regions of Oshana, Ohangwena, Omusati and Oshikoto have the available manpower and infrastructure to develop necessary skills for diversified entrepreneurship.

The NCCI Northern Branch Chairperson wants investments to continue at Oshakati in order to sustain the town’s socio-economic growth.

“We just need to invest more in these opportunities and make this a focus,” Iindji stated.

He referred to engineering, renewable energy, sustainable agricultural practices, financial services, hospitality, tourism, and manufacturing as the new entrepreneurship ventures the northern regions need to focus on.

“A diverse economy is sustainable over the long-term. An economy built exclusively on the backs of local retail institutions has its limits in a globally competitive environment,” Iindji charged.

Oshana Regional Governor Clemens Kashuupulwa also addressed attendees of the business breakfast bash and noted that it has brought unity between the Oshakati Town Council and the town’s businesspersons.
