Oshakati Market Opening Date Changed

THE much anticipated opening of the state-of-the-art Oshakati open market, which was scheduled to be completed by the end of this month, has been rescheduled to the end of September this year.

According to the Oshakati spokesperson Jackson Muma they could not meet the initial date because of late delivery of vital equipment such as the lift for the observation tower from Germany.

He also told The Namibian that the council had increased the construction budget of the market by N$10 million from the previous N$70 million. The money will include construction costs and fees for professionals like architects, civil engineers and quantity surveyors.

Muma further said the construction of the market was done in three phases and is currently in the final phase. The market will comprise a 37-metre high observation tower for tourists and cold storage rooms. The facility will also accommodate more than 350 vendors.

Long and short distance bus terminals will also be one of the features of the market which is set to boost the local economy.
