Oshana Police confiscate 446 boxes of Dunhill cigarettes and 220 boxes of Chinese-made cigarettes

OSHAKATI: The Oshana Police yesterday confiscated 446 boxes of Dunhill cigarettes and 220 boxes of Chinese-made cigarettes here yesterday.

The cigarettes are worth an estimated N.dollars 20 million.

Acting regional commander of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in the Oshana Region, Deputy Commissioner Rauha Amwele told reporters yesterday the cigarettes were found in a container in a warehouse at Oshakati’s Ekuku settlement in the north of Oshakati.

This followed a tip-off from a member of the public on Monday.

Amwele said the warehouse belongs to a local businessman, who could not provide proof that the cigarettes were legally acquired or how it was brought into the country.

She said the Police are waiting on the businessman and his possible business partners to provide proof of legal procurement documents for the cigarettes.
