Oshikoto, Oshana and Otjozondjupa in Semi-Finals

The host Oshikoto region together with Oshana and Otjozondjupa regions have qualified for the semi-finals of the 2014 The Namibian Newspaper Cup following Day Two action at the Oscar Norich Stadium in Tsumeb.

Oshikoto won two and drew one of their Group A games and have seven points and are through to the semi-finals on Easter Sunday morning. Oshikoto beat last year’s losing finalists Omaheke 1-0 Zambezi 1-0 and were held by Kunene to a 2-2 draw to finish ahead of Omaheke in Group A.

In Group B, Oshana region also aanced to the semi-finals with nine points from three games. The impressive Oshana defeated Erongo region, 1-0 and went on to beat Khomas region 1-0 and also breezed past Karas 3-1 to get maximum points from three games and top Group B.

In Group C, defending champions Otjozondjupa booked their semi-finals place after three wins, beating Omusati region 3-1 in their opener, and followed that up with 4-0 hammerings of both Ohangwena and Hardap regions.

The final semi-finalist will be decided on Sunday morning when Kavango take on Otjozondjupa at 0900, while Omusati will play Ohangwena region at 10h15.

Kavango region can aance with at least a draw against the defending champions, while Omusati needs to win big and hope Kavango loses big as well. Kavango can also aance even if they lose to Otjozondjupa which makes it all the more interesting on Sunday morning.

The semi-finals will be played as from 13h00, when Group A winners Oshikoto region takes on either Omusati or Kavango region (Group C runner -up), while Group B winners Oshana will face Group C winners, Otjozondjupa at 14h15.

Sunday’s program will also see the Brave Gladiators B team in an exhibition match against the Omusati regional women’s select team at 15h30 before the Brave Warriors take to the field against the Namibian Newspaper Cup Shadow Team at 16h45.

On Easter Monday at 09h00, the losing semi-finalists will battle for third and fourth places, while the big match, the final of the 2014 Namibian Newspaper Cup will be held at 11h00 at the Oscar Norich Stadium in Tsumeb to bring the curtain down on yet another exciting and memorable edition of the Under-20 youth tournament.
