Oshikoto Snatch Third Place From Otjozondjupa

The tournament’s surprise team, Oshikoto restored some pride after they beat Otjozondjupa on penalties to clinch third spot of the coveted Namibian Newspaper Cup they hosted at the Oscar Norich Stadium in Tsumeb on Monday morning.

Their top scorer Esmond Wallace Kheimseb netted the winning penalty to make it 5-4 for Oshikoto after Christof Haigomab missed his spot-kick for Otjozondjupa.

Earlier during the closely-contested encounter, Oshikoto drew first blood after Kheimseb rounded off goalkeeper Towell Damaseb to kick the ball past a cluster of Otjozondjupa defenders, after good work from the left side of the attack.

The ever-reliable Glen Kamutjete was the saviour of Otjozondjupa again after he levelled the score for his team with a great long range shot.

The gifted striker then added goal number two in quick succession when his thunderous bullet swerved past a bewildered Kleophas Nangolo in the Oshikoto goals to hit the back of the net.

It looked like another win for Otjozondjupa was on the cards, but Ben Kubeb ran onto a through-ball and capitalised on central defender Dwayne Sabatha’s failure to clear the ball, as he hit a low shot past Otjozondjupa’s diving goalie to level the score at 2-2 and send the encounter into a penalty shootout.

Glen Kamutjete of Otjozondjupa received the man of the match award from Martin Hattingh, Sales Manager of Ohorongo Cement.
