Otjiwarongo State Hospital without pathologists

OTJIWARONGO; The Otjiwarongo State Hospital and Police Mortuary will soon be without doctors to conduct forensic medical examinations, because the contracts of the two Cuban doctors who did so, expire at the end of this month.

The Cuban pathologists are Dr Mirna Batista Santos and Dr Jose Gama Zambrana Rosado.

They have been in Namibia since August 2011, and first worked at the Oshakati Intermediate Hospital before commencing work in Otjiwarongo in 2012.

A farewell party was held in their honour at the Otjiwarongo Police Station Canteen on Saturday.

Otjiwarongo Police Chief Inspector Elifas Kadhila, in an interview with Nampa on Saturday, urged the Ministry of Health and Social Services to speedily recruit new forensic medical specialists.

On his part, the Otjiwarongo State Hospital’s Principal Medical Officer, Dr Emmanuel Makopa said his office will do its utmost best to get replacements for Santos and Rosado.

Santos is from Holguin City, while Rosado is from Pinar del Rio Province in Cuba.
