Otjozondjupa police ready for elections

OTJIWARONGO; The Otjozondjupa police will provide maximum security to residents in the region on Election Day this Friday.

The Otjozondjupa Regional Police Commander, Commissioner Joseph Anghuwo told Nampa on Monday that about 340 police officers will be deployed on Thursday morning to fixed and mobile polling stations in the region.

“We are in proper readiness to police the upcoming Presidential and National Assembly Elections,” said Anghuwo.

He urged members of all 16 political parties participating in the elections this year to refrain from any form of violence, as the police will not tolerate any bad behaviour during and after elections.

The Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN)’s Otjozondjupa Regional Co-ordinator, Friedrich Rugharo last Tuesday told this news agency that a total of 155 polling stations – 61 fixed and 94 mobile stations have been identified in the region.

Seven verification centres have also been identified in seven constituencies in the region.

These are: Swanevelder Community Hall; Okakarara Community Hall; Tsumkwe Community Hall; Omulunga Community Hall; Otavi Community Hall; Kapaeu School Hall in Ovitoto; and the Okahandja Community Hall in Okahandja.

A total of 930 trained ECN officials will work in the region.
