Pastor ‘Rapes’ Nephew

A FOURTEEN-year-old Okahao boy was allegedly raped by his 26-year-old uncle, who is a graduate of theology.

Police spokesperson Inspector Slogan Matheus yesterday said the suspect had just returned from abroad where he was studying theology.

Matheus told the media during a press briefing in Windhoek that the teenager was raped after he had taken a shower and had gone into his room to apply lotion.

When he entered the room, Mathues said, the teenage found his uncle on his bed. The suspect allegedly jumped onto his nephew, dragged him to the bed and had sexual intercourse with him without consent.

Family members have described the suspect as mentally unstable, Matheus said yesterday. The man is also expected to appear in the Okahao Magistrate’s Court today.

A second rape case that was also committed at Okahao involved a 21-year-old man who allegedly raped a 23-year-old woman.

Matheus said the alleged incident took place on Thursday at about 15h30 at the Omatumi village. The woman had taken her phone for charging and was on her way back home when the suspect followed her. When they walked past his homestead, the suspect allegedly took out a knife, twisted the woman’s arm, pulled her into his bedroom and raped her. The suspect, who was arrested on Saturday, is also expected in the Okahao Magistrate’s Court today.

In another incident, at the Oshikuku sha Shipua village in the Oshikuku constituency, a 13-year-old girl allegedly fell prey to an adult male predator on Thursday.

The events happened at night – allegedly during a game of hide and seek. It is alleged that the complainant was raped after going to go hide during the game. The suspect followed her to where she was hiding.

By yesterday afternoon, the suspect who is known to the community and the police was still at large, the police spokesperson confirmed.

Meanwhile, two Rehoboth brothers are behind bars at the town’s police station after they allegedly raped a girl (14) over the weekend.

According to Matheus, it is alleged that the two brothers – aged 17 and 20 – and the complainant were enjoying alcoholic drinks at their residence.

Later, when the complainant’s mother came looking for her, she found the three entangled with one another on the bed.

Matheus said both the suspects and the teenage complainant were naked.

The suspects are expected to make a first appearance on a charge of rape in the Rehoboth Magistrate’s Court today.

Another rape charge was reported at Gobabis.

It is alleged that a 12-year-old girl was walking from her parental home to visit an uncle in the vicinity. En route there, “suddenly three young men appeared from the darkness, grabbed her, kicked her all over her body and threatened to kill her”, Matheus said.

One of the suspects then allegedly raped her.

According to Matheus, “the victim did not sustain serious injuries she just felt pain”.

By yesterday afternoon, none of the three suspects had been apprehended.

At about 16h00 on Saturday in the Zambezi region, an eight-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a man (23). The suspect and the complainant are cousins, Matheus said.

He added that the incident took place at the Makonoga Village in the Bukalo Area. The suspect allegedly raped his cousin in the bush. He was arrested and is expected to appear in the Katima Mulilo Magistrate’s Court today.

Meanwhile, two Angolan nationals were robbed at gun point at two separate residences in Khomasdal over the weekend.

Matheus said the modus operandi of the assailants appears to be the same. Both complainants were attacked during the early hours of the morning while asleep in bed.

The unknown suspects fled the respective scenes with thousands of dollars worth of loot including Namibian and foreign currency.

By yesterday afternoon, no one had been arrested in connection with the incidents.
