Pedestrian killed near Omuthiya

ONGWEDIVA; The Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in the Oshikoto Region have opened a case of culpable homicide against a driver of a Government vehicle after he hit a pedestrian in the Omuthiya area on Saturday.

Deputy Commissioner William Peter of NamPol in the Oshikoto Region informed Nampa on Monday that the accident happened on the Oshivelo-Ondangwa main road at about 14h45.

Peter said the pedestrian, identified as Jeremia Iita, was crossing the road at the Ekulo village, some 8km from Omuthiya, when the driver of the vehicle hit him.

The driver is an employee of the Ministry of Regional and Local Government, Housing and Rural Development at Eenhana in the Ohangwena Region.

The deceased person worked as cattle herder at Omuthiya east.

It is believed that he is from the Uukwaluudhi area in the Omusati Region.

“Anybody with information to help the Police in tracing the relatives of the deceased is requested to contact Constable Julia Shikongo at 0817547051,” Peter said.

The deceased’s body is currently being kept at the Police mortuary in Tsumeb.
