Pennypinchers supports NAKU

ONGWEDIVA; Pennypinchers at Ongwediva on Thursday handed over bags and golf T-shirts worth N.dollars 40 000 to the Namibia Karate Union (NAKU).

The bags and T-shirts are for 73 karateka who will participate in the African Union Sports Council Region Five Karate Championships. The event takes place in Johannesburg, South Africa on 29 and 30 May.

The building material outlet also donated N.dollars 15 000 to vulnerable athletes who are members of the local Oshakati Karate Club.

The company in 2013 sponsored T-shirts worth N.dollars 12 000 for the NAKU national team that participated in the Zone Six Games held in Namibia that year.

This is the second time Pennypinchers sponsors the national karate team, while it has been supporting the Oshakati Karate Club for the past five years.

“We are proud to be associated with a business such as Pennypinchers in Ongwediva. Sport in this country needs funding from both internal and external sources,” NAKU president Cornelius D’Alton said in a media statement issued on Thursday.

The new NAKU national coach, Freddy Mwiya told Nampa shortly after receiving the sponsorship on Thursday that his athletes have trained hard and are ready to assume their rightful place amongst the karate nations in Africa.

The karate team leaves for Johannesburg on 26 May.
