People Need Share in Resources – Swapo Erongo

SWAPO’S Erongo regional executive committee met in Omaruru on Saturday to come up with strategies on how best to tackle development and the challenges in the region.

Regional coordinator Philipus Heita told the participants that they must “do away with personal issues” and focus on economic development in the interest of the region’s residents.

“They elected us to represent them not for ourselves,” Heita said.

As for development, Heita said Erongo was home to a variety of key industries, including mining, fisheries and tourism and that, in the interest of wealth distribution, the communities “need some kind of involvement” through the various line ministries, as well as other key governmental agencies and departments.

The committee met to establish ideas and strategies “how to share resources” with Namibians in order to reduce poverty and hunger amongst the communities in the region.

The Liquor Act also needs to be amended, according to Heita.

“Alcohol abuse in our community is now fashion 247 in our houses, villages, towns and cities. Alcohol and drug abuse in our communities contributes to violence against women and children, shack fires and road accidents,” according to Heita.

In order to ensure a landslide victory for the Swapo Party and its presidential candidate, Hage Geingob during the upcoming national elections, the party needs to “strengthen and identify competitive aantages”, and refrain from any kind of provocation during campaign and election time, he concluded.
