Pohamba to attend AU Summit for last time

WINDHOEK: President HifikepunyePohamba will attend the 24th summit of the African Union (AU) slated for 30 and 31 January in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

It will be the last Summit of Heads of State and Government which Pohamba attends, as he will relinquish power to his successor Dr HageGeingob in March this year.

The 24th Summit will take place under the theme “Women’s Empowerment Year and Africa’s Development for the Concretisation of Agenda 2063”.

The 37-member presidential delegation includes First Lady PenehupifoPohamba, Minister of Foreign Affairs Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, Minister of Trade and Industry CalleSchlettwein, Minister of Gender Equality and Child Welfare RosaliaNghidinwa, National Planning Commission (NPC) Director-General Tom Alweendo, Permanent Representative to the United Nations (UN) WilfriedEmvula, and Special Advisor on Foreign Affairs, TuliameniKalomoh.

The delegation is expected back on Sunday.
