Pohamba urges Swapo to prepare for landslide victory

WINDHOEK: President Hifikepunye Pohamba has called on members of the Swapo-Party’s Central Committee to position the party for a landslide victory in the upcoming elections.

Namibians are going to polls for the Presidential and National Assembly elections in November this year.

Speaking at the Swapo-Party Central Committee meeting that took place in Windhoek on Friday, Pohamba, who is also the Swapo-Party president, urged the members to keep in mind that they can only position the party for a landslide victory by ensuring that all the party’s organs and structures at all levels are ready to mobilise effectively in all regions, districts, branches and sections across Namibia.

“We must encourage all party members to mobilise voters to vote for the Swapo-Party and ensure that we achieve higher representation in the National Assembly,” he said.

He also urged them to work harder in order to ensure that the party’s presidential candidate, Dr Hage Geingob, achieves a resounding electoral victory.

Pohamba further stated that the party has established a strong record of implementing developmental programmes aimed at promoting economic growth and the improvement of the living conditions of people in different parts of the country.

He then mentioned that the Swapo-Party government has completed various capital and economic development projects, which include the construction and renovations of roads, railways, schools, health facilities and water pipelines.

“This is the message we must convey to the Namibian electorates as we prepare for the upcoming elections,” he stated.

The Central Committee meeting was convened in keeping with the tradition of the Swapo-Party to afford the members of the organ the opportunity to discuss pertinent issues, especially in light of the Presidential and National Assembly Elections in November.
