Prisons Security Chief Suspended

THE Namibian Correctional Service has suspended its head of security pending an internal investigation into alleged questionable procurement dealings.

Head of prisons Commissioner General Raphael Hamunyela, confirmed that Commissioner Skeil Keseni was suspended to make way for investigations and has not been charged with any crime yet.

Keseni’s suspension on Monday came after Hamunyela’s office was informed of suspicious transactions which took place under Keseni’s watch.

The transactions in question involve the acquisition of goods believed to be valued at about N$10 million.

The goods in question are security items and the purchase of the Service’s musical instruments and uniforms.

Hamunyela said he was unable to provide more details because investigations are still at an early stage. Keseni could not be reached for comment yesterday.
