QSB athletics and training camps to continue

WINDHOEK: The 12th Quinton-Steele Botes (QSB) multi-athletics’ event took place in Windhoek over the weekend.

Athletes of various ages converged at the Independence Stadium on Friday and Saturday, where they took part in field and track events in preparation for the upcoming athletics’ season.

Events’ organiser Leoni van Rensburg told Nampa on Monday that athletes displayed exceptional performances during the event.

She singled out Nico Horn, who competed in javelin throw, and threw a distance of 63.09 metres (m), as well as Sugnet Engelbrecht, who ensured a distance of 37.97m in the discus throw.

Dirk Potgieter, who managed a distance of 40.40m in the discus event, was also another star performer on the day.

Asked about the future of the QSB athletics’ training camps, Van Rensburg said all sponsors who were involved with the late Botes have indicated their commitment to the furtherance of the training camps.

“Quinton gave the relay baton to us, and we will carry on with the events”, Van Rensburg stated.

The wheels are already in motion for the 22nd QSB athletics training camp, which will take place in Windhoek from 05 to 09 January 2015.

Botes was brand ambassador for local and international companies like Marathon Sugar, Coca-Cola, Bank Windhoek, Engen, Tyres 2000 and Starlite – all of which were involved in athletics.

He died in June this year after a long battle with cancer.
