RCC Workers Picket Over CEO’s Pay

WORKERS at the Roads Contractor Company yesterday held a peaceful demonstration to express discontent over acting chief executive officer Pieter Oosthuizen’s pay package.

The demonstration by about 30 workers came after The Namibian reported yesterday that Oosthuizen earns about N$100 000, stays in a company house for free and drives a company car.

They called for Oosthuizen’s removal from the company, and also demanded that the company’s board of directors should be removed and the management reshuffled.

In addition, they demanded better wages and improved working conditions.

The workers, who gathered at the company premises during lunch hour, protested against what they said was unfair labour practices by the company.

“Free housing for all!” shouted one of the employees.

Some of the placards accused the company’s board and management of being corrupt and practising nepotism.

The Namibian reported that Oosthuizen earns N$100 000 a month inclusive of housing and car allowances, despite staying in a company house and driving a company car.

The report also said Oosthuizen gets extras that push his monthly income to about N$138 000 tax free. Some of the extras are a N$9 000 car allowance, N$25 000 monthly rent and N$4 500 free fuel a month.
