RDP Flag Stolen, Destroyed At Outapi

THE Rally for Democracy and Progress in Omusati region has accused Swapo of stealing and destroying its flag at Outapi.

The opposition party’s coordinator at Outapi, Helvi Shilongo, said the flag was hoisted about 35 metres from a tree where Swapo’s flag was flying.

Shilongo said the case was reported to the police and that suspects had been identified. “They are just wasting their time. We are determined and will hoist another flag at this same place again. We will hoist many flags in different districts in Omusati,” said Shilongo. Jeremia Nambinga, the RDP secretary for information and publicity, who gly condemned the destruction of the flag, said the party was happy to infiltrate the Omusati region, which was once claimed by Swapo as a no-go area.

Swapo coordinator for Omusati region Erigius Endjala said his office did not send anybody to remove the RDP flag.

He also said the flag was hoisted at the homestead of the RDP coordinator for Outapi district. Endjala could not understand how a Swapo member would remove the flag without the RDP coordinator observing it.

“RDP has no credibility. It is looking for political sympathy. They might have removed the flag themselves. Who knows?” asked Endjala.

Meanwhile, Outapi police said they have arrested a second man in connection with the case of assault and damage to property during the fracas where some RDP members were said to have been beaten by Swapo supporters early this month. A Swapo supporter, Josua Andowa, who was arrested in connection with the incident, appeared in the Outapi Magistrate’s Court and was released on bail of N$500. The other man is yet to appear in court.

In a related case, Swapo reported a case of assault and damage to property after three pupils from Onelago Combined School were beaten and their uniforms torn by alleged RDP supporters at Onghili, on the Outapi Okalongo main road on 17 May. Nobody has been arrested yet, and the police are investigating the case.
