RDP Names Candidate for Ohangwena Election

Members of the Rally for Democracy and Progress (RDP) in the Ohangwena constituency have elected Vilho Shimwooshili as their candidate for the upcoming by-election in that constituency.

The Ohangwena constituency by-election will be held on 5 August this year to fill the position which became vacant after the death of former regional councillor Maria Tuleingepo Kombwana of the Swapo Party in May this year.

The election date was confirmed during a stakeholders’ meeting convened by officials of the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) at the Ohangwena Constituency’s Onhuno settlement on Friday.

The RDP secretary in Ohangwena Region, Timo Shikongo, told Nampa on the side-lines of the stakeholders’ meeting that Shimwooshili was elected unopposed during the party’s district conference held at Onhuno on 26 May. Shikongo said Shimwooshili has already started lobbying for support from the people in the constituency.

Approached to comment on his election as the RDP candidate, Shimwooshili thanked members of his party for the trust they put in him to run as their candidate for the Ohangwena constituency by-election.

He said if he is voted into power, he will strive to unite the people of the Ohangwena constituency, irrespective of their political affiliations.

“If I am elected, I will serve in the interest of all the people of the constituency, and I will also strive to educate members of our community that public service should be inclusive and not be rendered on the basis of political orientation,” Shimwooshili said.

“I am appealing to the people of our constituency that this time around, they should not vote because of political loyalty, but they must vote for a candidate who will be able to bring development and changes in their standard of living,” he stated.

Shimwooshili is the RDP mobiliser in the Ohangwena constituency.
