RDP Will Not Contest By-Elections

THE Rally for Democracy and Progress national executive committee this weekend resolved that the party will not participate in the impending by-elections.

The Otjiwarongo and Onyaanya constituency by-elections will take place soon, with the Otjiwarongo one slotted for 9 July.

According to RDP information secretary Jeremiah Nambinga this was decided during a meeting held by the NEC last Saturday.

“The national executive committee decided to not participate in by-elections scheduled for July because of the short time frame in view of the ordinary regional and local elections scheduled for November 2015. RDP is calling upon its rank and file members to re-dedicate themselves for full participation in the November 2015 regional and local authority elections,” said Nambinga.

It was also decided in the meeting that the executive extraordinary congress at which a new party president will be elected will take place on the 3 July weekend instead of the 23 May weekend.

“This scheduled postponement is to allow the RDP regional structures to hold their respective district and regional conferences,” he said.

The Namibian last week reported that Christian Nguherimo became the fifth member of the party to join the race for the presidency.

Nguherimo joined Kandy Nehova, Libolly Haufiku, Heikko Lucks and Nambinga following the resignation of Hidipo Hamutenya in February.
