Republican Party to support Swapo-Party presidential candidate Geingob

WINDHOEK: Republican Party (RP) president Henk Mudge says his party will not contest the presidential elections later this year, and will only participate in the national elections.

Speaking at a media conference in the capital today, the RP leader pointed out that his party plans to support the Swapo-Party’s presidential candidate Dr Hage Geingob during the presidential elections.

He said the RP would rather want to show their support for Geingob, and work with him as the president of the country.

Mudge also revealed that the plans his party had announced some four years ago to merge with the opposition Rally for Democracy and Progress (RDP) have been called off.

He said for a number of reasons, the envisaged cooperation between the two parties did not materialise.

Mudge, who did not elaborate much on the reasons why the plans were called off, said he has always respected his friend, RDP president Hidipo Hamutenya (HH) as a person, which is still the case.
