Retired principal is new councilor of Endola Constituency

OSHAWAPALA: Swapo Party’s Ferdinand Shifidi, a retired principal, is the new councilor of Endola Constituency in the Ohangwena Region.

This was announced officially by the Electoral Commission of Namibia’s (ECN) Returning Oficer, Kerthu Shipoke after the final verification of the votes that were cast in the Endola Constituency by-election.

The election results were announced at about 02h00 today.

Shifidi, 63, won the by-election with a clear majority of 6 633 votes.

His nearest challenger, 52-year-old Hafeni Pius of the Rally for Democracy and Progress (RDP) only managed 631 votes.

The Congress of Democrats’ (CoD) 32-year-old Venda Denis Kahangu, who also participated in the election, received just 68 votes.

ORANJEMUND; The Namdeb Diamond Corporation is celebrating its 20-year anniversary this year.

The mine, formerly known as Consolidated Diamond Mining (CDM), entered into a 50-50 joint venture with the Government of Namibia in 1994.

During a formal dinner at Oranjemund on Thursday, Namdeb Board Chairperson Elijah Ngurare said the public-private partnership has grown from strength to strength.

Ngurare said the company was operating successfully, which serves to benefit everybody.

He applauded the workers of the company, saying “they are the ones who make it possible for our gems to shine”.

Ngurare indicated that he looks forward to the day when Namibians from all over the country have an equal share in the world-renowned diamond company.
