RJ Benjamin to Perform At Miss Namibia Pageant

GUESTS at this year’s Miss Namibia pageant can expect white-knuckle brilliance in the form of South African music composer and vocalist, RJ Benjamin.

An Allenby Campus graduate back at the turn of the millennium, RJ Benjamin stayed on as a then 22-year-old teacher who today can claim the likes of Elvis Blue and Robin Kohl as just two of the many who have passed through his classroom.

While teaching, RJ found time to shimmy up and befriend the inner sanctum of the hip-hop and dance fraternity which helped launch a career that’s entrenched and is growing still. “My diary is my songbook,” he says. “I write songs in the same way diaries and blogs are filled.”

Teacher, writer and producer RJ’s credibility comes from more than 10 years of mining and polishing and giving it “some of that”, as he affectionately put it. “I’ve have, through collaborations, song writing, performing and teaching, built a space that affords me the opportunity work for myself today, on my own terms, and only when I choose to,” says the artist who is referenced, invited and embraced by every critical genre record label and artist keen to push the boundaries of their original idea.

Vocalist, composer, songwriter, producer and teacher, he successfully blends soul, pop, hip-hop and funk and house music into scintillating songs. Over the last 12 months, RJ has been busy with musical mentoring and for the second year in a row he reprised his role as musical director on Mzansi Magic’s ‘Clash Of The Choirs’. He also rejoined ‘Idols’ South Africa for their tenth season as the in-house mentor.

“I’ve always been passionate about unearthing talent,” he says

He plans on releasing his fifth studio album entitled ‘The 5th Story’ soon. The album will feature Ziyon (formerly of Liquideep), Proverb and Cape Town based singer Can Skylark.
