Rocky Crest Man Killed in Robbery Attempt

A YOUNG man from Rocky Crest suburb in Windhoek was shot dead during the early hours of Friday after he tried to check on intruders in his neighbour’s yard.

Adrian Burger (32), was behind his father when they responded to the intruders and was struck in the stomach by a bullet aimed at his father that was fired by one of the robbers.

He died on the scene while paramedics were trying to resuscitate him.

Adrian’s sister Siobhan Burger told The Namibian yesterday that her father woke up after he had heard some noise outside the neighbour’s flat.

“He took his firearm and went to the front door, not aware that Adrian was behind him. When he opened the door, another robber, who was passing by our flat, saw my father and fired at him. The bullet went through his arm and into my brother’s stomach,” Burger said.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Slogan Matheus confirmed the incident, saying the robbers fled the scene and were still at large by yesterday. Police are investigating cases of murder and attempted murder.

“The incident happened at Rocky Crest Bella Rosa-Carolina flats at around 01h50 Friday morning,” Matheus said.
